Financial Aid Options for Part-Time Students
College for Working Adults Financial Aid
Just because you aren鈥檛 able to enroll in college full-time doesn't mean you have to postpone your education. Many of the same types of financial aid-loans, grants, scholarships, and work-study programs that are available to full-time students are also accessible to part-time students. However, some restrictions and stipulations apply and funding is limited for part-time students as compared to full-time students. The amount of aid you can receive is relevant to demonstrated need and enrollment status.
Enrollment Status
Full-time students are enrolled in 12 units or more. Part-time students are enrolled in less than 12 units. To receive some type of financial aid, you must be enrolled in one of the following statuses:Types of Aid

- Federal Work Study: Campus employment that lets you earn money to pay for college expenses.
- FWS students must be enrolled in at least one course and may not work more than 19.5 hours per week.
- : Awarded only to undergraduate students who display exceptional financial need. Students who have earned a bachelor's, graduate, or professional degree are not eligible.
- : You must maintain enrollment and must not have previously earned a bachelor鈥檚 degree.
- Must be enrolled in at least 6 units.
- Subsidized, which the government pays the interest while the student is in college.
- Unsubsidized, which the student is responsible for paying all the interest on the loan for the life of the loan (even while you are in school).
State Aid
- : A minimum 3.00 high school GPA, or minimum 2.40 college GPA is required. If awarded at a California Community College, can be held in reserve up to two academic years until the student transfers to a tuition charging institution.
- : A minimum 2.00 GPA is required.
- : Award to pay for books and supplies for students pursuing a career or technical education; no GPA requirement. For Occupational or Technical training programs of least 4 months in length
- Cal Grant Access Award: Created for Cal Grant A, B & C recipients who have dependents under the age of 18 for whom they provide more than 50% support. Eligible students must self-certify their eligibility through the and SBCC will adjust the student's award letter.
: For students under the age of 26 that were in foster care for at least one day, between the ages of 16 and 18 as a dependent or ward of the court and has financial need. Awarded using FAFSA or CADAA application. First time applicants need to complete a separate .

California College Promise Grant (CCPG) (formally BOG fee waiver): will waive your per-unit enrollment fee at any community college throughout the state. Awarded using FAFSA or CADAA application or through for students with high financial need.
- Maintain a GPA of 2.0 or higher
- Complete more than 50% of your coursework.
Other Aid
