
Staff/Faculty Prerequisite Instructions and Forms
STAFF/FACULTY ONLINE PREREQUISITE CLEARANCE FORM & INSTRUCTIONS
This form is intended to be submitted by SBCC staff, faculty, and administrators only. For student forms go to sbcc.edu/teo.

Ways to satisfy a prerequisite requirement include:
1) Equivalent/substitute couresework from another institution
2) Advanced Placement scores
3) Grounds other than coursework (see below for details)
There is a lot of flexibility in what information you can provide on the form. Please fill out the sections that apply to your request to the best of your ability. We will contact you if we need additional information.
The instructions below are general, and may not apply if we already have a specific workflow established with your department.
- If the student is using equivalent/substitute coursework from another institution: Acceptable coursework includes: successfully completed high school courses (ex: chemistry,
physics, foreign language courses) with a grade of C-, Pass or Credit where Pass/Credit = C- or above, and successfully completed college/university courses from regionally accredited
institutions with a grade of C, Pass or Credit where Pass/Credit = C/2.0 or above.
- Official transcripts should be on file with Admissions and Records prior to you submitting this form on the student's behalf. If you also attach an unofficial copy to the form that can help speed up the process.
- The student must follow the instructions on Incoming Transcripts to submit their transcripts to SBCC Admissions & Records and have been received. Transcripts sent anywhere other than directly to Admissions &
Records from the other institution are considered unofficial.
- Exception: High school counselors and administrators may submit transcripts by email to Transcripts@sbcc.edu and they will be considered official.
- If the student is using AP scores:
- Have the student download a PDF copy of their "Student Score Report" from . Please then attach the Score Report to your form. Click here for additional instructions.
- If the student is using grounds other than coursework or AP scores (such as work experience, fluency in a language, licenses or certificates, etc., or as directed by SBCC staff):
- If you are a department chair or dean and you submit a request for a course in your department, please state your approval in the "additional information" box at the end of the form.
- The student should supply you with a written statement with reasoning supporting the basis for the pre/co-requisite clearance request. Please attach their statement to your form.
- If the student is using a license, certification, etc. as justification for the request they should provide a copy for you to attach to your form.
- DUAL ENROLLMENT STUDENTS: Dual Enrollment students must also provide a letter of support from their high school
counselor or the request will be denied.
- For ENGLISH courses only, students must supply a statement of recommendation from their last high school English teacher instead of a letter of support from their high school counselor/administrator or the request will be denied.
Processing Your Form
Staff and faculty requests are processed within 1-3 business days of receipt of your completed form and all required documentation. This time frame excludes weekends, holidays, and campus closures and is subject to change without notification.
Important Notes:
- There are no automatic approvals unless the form is submitted by a department chair/dean for a course within their department.
- Notifications and decisions are emailed to students at their SBCC campus account.
- Students are not permitted to enroll in courses that require prerequisites or co-requisites until their request is approved.
- An approved petition does not guarantee space in any course.
- An add code from an instructor does not override a prerequisite clearance request.
