Programs

SBCC Study Abroad Program offers short and semester programs every academic year. Programs are faculty-led and therefore destinations as well as course offerings change each year.

We strive to offer financially accessible programs. With an emphasis on diversity and affordability, SBCC Study Abroad aims to offer programs to a diverse student body.

Each program is different. Please click below on the program of your choice to review the details including cost, application deadline, housing, requirements, and more.

What you need to submit a complete application:

1. A completed Student Conduct Release Form. Please download the form HERE and submit it to the appropriate official to complete. Instructions are on the form.

2. A current photo of you.

3. Your unofficial transcript that shows all your courses including GPA, your name and your schools name. Phone screenshots or individual images of the document can not be accepted.

Studying abroad can be one of the most rewarding and exciting experiences in a student's academic career. Combining learning and travel is education at its best!

However, before you enroll in a study abroad program, it is essential to find out as much as possible about the program, the program provider, and the academic coursework offered to determine whether the program is right for you. When you participate in our programs, you must enroll in all courses offered on the program and stay enrolled throughout the program.

If you are interested in one of SBCC's programs, we strongly advise you to attend the program's information meeting with the program director or to meet with the Study Abroad Program Advisor and your Academic and Financial Aid Advisor. Click HERE to find a calendar of events.

To make the most of your experience abroad, it is essential to prepare yourself adequately and to become knowledgeable about the country(ies) you will be visiting. We have many online resources available to you. Just browse our pages!

Refer to the below video for a step-by-step guide on how to complete a program application and use our Online Resource Guide as needed.

Semester Programs

Semester programs are offered during the fall or spring semester and are up to 90 days long, providing students with an immersive international experience that short-term programs cannot match. These extended programs allow students to settle into a new culture, build meaningful relationships, and develop language and cultural fluency that takes time to cultivate. Destinations, courses, and program directors change every school year, ensuring each cohort enjoys a fresh experience tailored to current academic and cultural opportunities.

For community college students, a semester program offers lasting advantages. The longer format allows students to earn more transferable credits in a single trip, maximizing time and financial investment. Completing a semester abroad also demonstrates independence and global awareness — qualities that stand out on transfer applications and resumes. Many semester programs are compatible with federal financial aid, making them more accessible than students might expect. Read the program description carefully, review payment schedules, and plan one to two semesters in advance, as application deadlines and fees vary.
